Since February 2019 Fondazione Memmo and Gasworks are working in partnership to offer a fully funded residency at Gasworks, London, for an artist based in Italy, from 6 January – 23 March 2020. As part of the Fondazione Memmo’s mission, the residency for Italian artists, conceived in cooperation with Ilaria Puri Purini, focuses on practitioners interested in working outside their local context bringing Italian contemporary art into an international arena.
Gasworks’ residencies are opportunities for self-led professional development, artistic exchange and experimentation. They encourage artists undertake new research and widen their networks in order to support the development of their practice.
On May 20th 2019 Fondazione Memmo and Gasworks have announced that Diego Marcon will undertake the residency for Italian artists at Gasworks in 2020.
Diego Marcon’s research focuses on the relationship between reality and representation, investigating the ontology of moving image and its potential to serve as a tool for an awareness of the real through phantasmagorical tropes. During his residency at Gasworks, Diego will conduct research into the English Gothic and its revival in the 19th century in literature and Gothic fiction in relation to animation and cinema.
