THE FONDAZIONE
Mr. Roberto Memmo, businessman and active art patron and collector, universally renowned for his sensitivity to preserving cultural heritage, which manifests itself in his firm commitment to the valorization and divulgation of the arts, on January 24, 1972 decides to honour the memory of his lost son by founding the Fondazione Memmo. His generous and relentless abnegation has enabled him to create with the Fondazione Memmo, rare example in Italy, an entirely privately run cultural organisation. The incredible objectives reached, the appreciation of the public and of the scholarly world earn him the “Mirò gold medal” by Unesco and the Getty Conservation Institute. The prestigious prize was given to him in occasion of the World Congress on the Condition of Artists held in Paris in 1997 as an acknowledgement for his contribution to the promotion of the arts on an international level. |
