Il trionfo del colore

Collezione Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza

dal 24/03/2002 al 23/06/2002

Back after ten years another major exhibition of works from what is considered the most prestigious of the private collections of the world. Through about sixty paintings, one can retrace the path identified by the artists towards modernity. It was built a path that kicks off in the middle decades of the nineteenth century with the spread of the taste for the picturesque and the theme of nature. The latter is seen in French painting in the rural aspect with players like Daubigny and the young Van Gogh. This painting is based on the expressive role of light and color, is the immediate precedent of Impressionism. In the exhibition there are paintings of Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, Kandinsky; you pass by the painting of the Fauves that are freed of the descriptive function of painting by painting moods, we come to abstraction of Kandinsky, Delaunay and after painting loses its original connotations and becomes triumph of color.
